"How to be a Hooker" with Catherine Veleker

Learn everything you need to know to create a primitive hooked rug by starting with a small mat.  While rug hooking may have begun as an early form of recycling, it's evolved to an art form with limitless possibilities which we will explore as we learn the simple techniques needed to get started playing with color, texture, and design.  Be prepared to become a dedicated hooker.  Materials Fee Includes: rug hook, hoop, linen backing, and plenty of wool fabric.  The hook and hoop can be reused for many future projects.         Class Fee: $49.00           Materials Fee: $25.00               Click here for Catherine's bio.

"Needle Felted Primitive Sheep or Pumpkin Picture" with Liz McLelland

 You will create a primitive picture by needle felting dyed wool fibers onto a piece of wool felt.  Learning these basic techniques will allow you to create gifts for friends and family.  Materials Fee Includes: needles, a sponge board, felt, a simple wooden frame and the fibers needed for the picture.  Skill Level: Mature teens 12 or older ok.                                          Class Fee: $49.00              Materials Fee: $20.00                   Click here for Liz's bio. 

"Spinning off the Edge" with Erin Newton

Waterfall hike with Nature Quest

Let your Nature Quest guide show you some of the most beautiful waterfalls our area has to offer.  Your guide will identify plants, fossils and wildlife as well as share local history with you.  Old sneakers or boots recommended, some stream crossing is required.  This non-strenuous hike takes place over easy terrain and is suitable for all ages.                     Meet at 9 am.   Fee: $35.00 per person transportation included.     Click here to go to Nature Quest's Website.

 "Sampler Sweater Class" with Kathleen England

"Sheep in the Meadow" a primitive painting with Linda Southard

 Working with a prepared surface and acrylic paints basic techniques of painting, floating, shading and antiquing will be covered.  Materials Fee Includes: prepared surface, pattern use of paints and brushes.  Skill Level: Beginners and beyond.  Supplies to bring:  Wear comfortable old clothing as you may end up with a bit of paint on you.    Class Fee:  $39.00                Materials Fee: $12.00                       Click here for Linda's bio. 

"Painted Silk Scarf" with Deb Schildt

Working with a silk scarf in a frame we will use dyes, gutta, salt and alcohol to create your "one of a kind" silk scarf.  Once done our scarves will be allowed to cure overnight, the next morning they will be steam set, rinsed and ironed.  They should be ready to go home with you that afternoon.  Materials Fee Includes:  Silk scarf and use of dye, gutta, salt and alcohol.   Skill Level:  The ability to smile, and a desire to create a one of a kind scarf.  Supplies to bring:  For some this is a messy process ... so please wear something comfortable that may end up getting stained.  Deb will have aprons and latex gloves on hand for those that wish to use them.  Class Fee: $49.00    Materials Fee:  $15.00    Click here for Deb's bio.

One hour Horseback Ride

 We'll meet at the Coach Stop and after a pre-ride lecture in safety and horsemanship, we'll hit the trail!  We have great horses and excellent guides and we can accommodate beginners from ages 8 and up.  Plan to be in the saddle for about an hour, with our pre-ride talk and other safety procedures, the total experience is about two hours long.      Meet at 1 pm.     Fee: $45.00 per person.         Click here to go to Nature Quest's Website.

Sunday Morning Activities

 "Twisted Ratios & Snarled Knots" with Phylleri Ball

We'll explore some of the finer points of spinning such as the relationship between drive ratios, twist  and yarn diameter.  Learn to spin novelty yarns such as snarl, knot and boucle.  Materials Fee Includes: Roving, binder yarn and frivolous fiber.  Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced.  Students must be able to spin a single and 2ply yarn in worsted weight or finer.  Supplies to bring: Fill two bobbins, each a different color of single ply with 3 oz. of wool or wool blend per bobbin.  Single ply should be in the range that if plyed, the yarn would be sport to worsted weight.  Bring spinning wheel and two or more empty bobbins.  Class Fee:  $49.00           Materials Fee: $5.00                   Click here for Phylleri's bio.

"Hand Felted Bag with Design" with Sue Ripley

In this class you will make a hand felted bag out of carded natural colored Shetland wool with a contrasting colored prefelted design.  The finished bag will measure about 7" x 10" and can have a strap of crocheted yarn.  The bag is made by wrapping wool around a cloth pattern, then wetting and soaping and felting it.  The design is made first of prefelted wool and laid on the bag so it will attach during the felting process.  Materials Fee Includes:  Wools, pattern and written instructions.  Skill Level:  This class involves using hands and soapy water and lots of energetic pressing, rubbing and rolling of the wool into felt.  You should be able to stand and work at a table for a couple of hours and should wear comfortable clothes.  Supplies to bring:  participants are asked to bring a simple design idea measuring about 4" x 4" (i.e. a leaf).         Class Fee: $49.00                  Materials Fee: $10.00                   Click here for Sue's bio.

Mt. Tom Hike

Check out one of the highest mountains in Tioga County.  The amazing view looks west over the valley housing Pine Creek and the town of Ansonia.  Your guide will be happy to identify plant species for you and help you look for bald eagles along Pine Creek.  You'll reach elevations of over 2200 feet, so be prepared to challenge yourself.  Bring your camera and binoculars.    Meet at 10 am.      Fee: $25.00 per person.            Click here to go to Nature Quest's Website.

 Horse-drawn Covered Wagon Ride

On this two hour ride you will see the canyon in comfort from our handcrafted covered wagons, equipped with padded seats and open sides for viewing.  We follow Pine Creek, on the floor of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon along the Pine Creek Rail Trail.  All of our wagon rides include a friendly guide, who will entertain you with local history, point out wildlife and be happy to answer your questions.  Bring your camera and keep and eye open for a pair of resident bald eagles.    Meet at 10 am.    Fee: $20.00 per person.                   Click here to go to Nature Quest's Website.
